The latest operating system offered by Microsoft is Windows 7 - dubbed as the most powerful and efficient OS they have ever made. It's set to be sold as a standalone OS in October 2009 and already available in new laptops and PCs. There's even an RTM (release to manufacturers) available for free but only as a trial that can be downloaded if you want to try the new operating system.
But before you start downloading the latest version of Windows, the following are things you need to know:
• Increased hardware requirements - Although Microsoft recommends 1GB of RAM for your laptop and PC to smoothly operate Windows 7, it's highly recommended to have a 2GB for optimized operation. You also need to have a powerful processor which should be no less than 1Ghz (2Ghz recommended)
• Increase in storage capacity - you need to have at least 16GB of free space in your hard disk before you can start installation.
• Internet access for updates - if you have a brand new laptop or PC with Windows 7, a decent internet connection is a must. Although the current OS is already stable, it will release some updates critical to the system especially on security.
• A better LCD - one of the best features of Windows 7 is its new look and improved interaction and the best way to experience that is to use an LCD instead of the bulky CRT.
An upgrade to Windows 7 is a must for Vista users. Its new look, functions and increased security has easily made Vista seem obsolete.
